  2. TOMMYSOFTWAREr CAD/DRAW
  3. TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  4. TOMMYSOFTWAREr  CAD/DRAW  runs  on  Windows  3.x  and  supports  its
  5. graphical  user  interface  through a user-friendly  and  consequent
  6. program layout.
  7.  
  8.   The program has an extensive, context-sensitive help function.
  9.  
  10.   Commands  can  be chosen by menu, keyboard, or graphical  symbols,
  11.   the so-called icons.
  12.  
  13.   These icons are located in a window, the popup menu, which appears
  14.   after  pressing  the  right  mouse  button  and  disappears  after
  15.   choosing  the  command.  In this way you can  easily  and  quickly
  16.   choose  commands  without wasting precious space  on  the  drawing
  17.   area. The assignment of the popup menu can be changed, so that you
  18.   are able to create your personal popup menu.

  20.   The assignment of the keyboard can also be configured according to
  21.   your  personal needs. For that you have the possibility to  assign
  22.   every letter key or numeric key with up to 3 commands.
  23.  
  24.   TOMMYSOFTWAREr    CAD/DRAW   provides   extensive    configuration
  25.   possibilities,  which enables you to adapt  the  program  to  your
  26.   personal  workplace. The program has an undo/redo  function,  i.e.
  27.   the  last  operation  can be undone. Through  this,  unintentional
  28.   changing  or  deleting of a drawing is being  prevented.  You  can
  29.   choose  out  of  various  sheet  formats  complying  with  DIN/ISO
  30.   standard  and  several  US  formats.  In  addition  you  have  the
  31.   possibilty  to  enter a value for the sheet size in millimeter  or
  32.   inch respectively.

  34.   Possible  length  units  are: micrometer, millimeter,  centimeter,
  35.   meter, kilometer, inch, foot, yard, mile, dezipoint, point, didot,
  36.   and cicero. There are three possible angle units: degree, gon, and
  37.   radian.  The  current  unit determines the  scale  and  all  other
  38.   settings  and  commands   which base  on  length  or  angle  units
  39.   respectively, e.g. the measure command.

  41.   The program supports up to 256 drawing layers. Every layer can  be
  42.   individually  faded out, frozen, or displayed in a certain  color.
  43.   Further  it  is  possible to define a pen for  each  layer,  which
  44.   defines  the  line  width, line color, and  line  pattern  of  all
  45.   objects that will be drawn in this layer.

  47.   All input is done with the mouse or of the keyboard via a context-
  48.   sensitive  direct  input, i.e. at any time a  dialog  box  can  be
  49.   opened  which  refers to the current command and  enables  you  to
  50.   input data.

  52.   Important  information,  like the current coordinates,  are  being
  53.   permanently  displayed  in  the status window.  Extensive  drawing
  54.   functions  guarantee efficient working even if the task is  rather
  55.   special,  e.g.:  line, polyline, triangle, quadrangle,  rectangle,
  56.   trapezium,  parallelogram, polyeder, circle,  circle  arc,  circle
  57.   ring,  ellipse, ellipse arc, ellipse ring, parabola, zigzag  line,
  58.   circle arc chain, Bzier chain, spline, and outline.

  60.   Various  manipulation functions, e.g. copy, move,  scale,  rotate,
  61.   reflect,  sheer, center, lock, release, foreground and  background
  62.   are also available.

  64.   TOMMYSOFTWAREr  CAD/DRAW provides several construction  functions:
  65.   Construction line: perpendicular on line, perpendicular on circle,
  66.   parallel  variable,  and  parallel  fixed.  Construction  tangent:
  67.   circle  z  point,  circle z circle outside, and  circle  z  circle
  68.   inside. Construction circle: circumcircle, incircle, perpendicular
  69.   on  line, and perpendicular on circle. Division: distance, circle,
  70.   and array. Multiple copy: rotation, distance, circle, and array.

  72.   The  freely configurable hatch function allows hatching with lines
  73.   of  which  attributes (line width, line color, and line  pattern),
  74.   distance and slope are editable. Further it is possible to  use  a
  75.   symbol which is automatically resolved into lines previously as  a
  76.   hatch pattern.

  78.   Measure  lines and associative measure functions comply  with  DIN
  79.   406.

  81.   If  you want to choose an object in order to manipulate it, you do
  82.   this  by the selecting it. You can select or deselect respectively
  83.   individual objects or whole areas of your drawing. In addition  it
  84.   is  possible to select an object by means of its attributes  (e.g.
  85.   line  width,  color,  or layer membership). The  selection  has  a
  86.   central meaning, because only selected objects can be manipulated.
  87.   Of  course  the  selection is still valid  after  a  manipulation,
  88.   because  of  this  it is possible to do several manipulations  one
  89.   after the other without selecting them each time.

  91.   By  means  of  the so-called outlines you can create any  form  of
  92.   area.  These  outlines consist of a sequence of lines  and  Bzier
  93.   curves and can also be changed later.

  95.   Several  grid settings (cartesian, isometric, and dimetric)  allow
  96.   the  exact positioning of points. The distance between grid  lines
  97.   can be chosen arbitrarily.

  99.   The  library functions are able to handle up to 900 symbols in one
  100.   library.  The creation of own libraries is possible. Part  of  the
  101.   program  package are 4 vector fonts. Because the vector  fonts  in
  102.   TOMMYSOFTWAREr CAD/DRAW are merely specially handled libraries you
  103.   can change these fonts or create completely new ones.

  105.   The  current drawing detail can be moved with the arrow  keys  and
  106.   the  scroll bars. Several zoom commands allow you to zoom and pan.
  107.   It  is also possible to save certain zooms to choose them later if
  108.   necessary.

  110.   Via  the Windows clipboard you can either import or export graphic
  111.   data.  In  this  way you can for example insert a drawing  created
  112.   with  TOMMYSOFTWAREr CAD/DRAW into a document  which  you  created
  113.   with a word processing program.

  115.   The  import  and export of foreign formats, like for  example  DXF
  116.   files,   is  done  by  special  import/export  converters.   These
  117.   converters  are independent from TOMMYSOFTWAREr CAD/DRAW  and  can
  118.   either  be  started  by a program function or  as  an  independent
  119.   Windows application.
